Competition at the 37th annual Burton U·S·Open Snowboarding Championships kicks off today in Vail, Colorado, with the legendary Junior Jam presented by Clif Bar starting at 10:00am MST. The future of snowboarding is about to unfold before our eyes. Even if you can’t witness it in person, you can still watch the live broadcast at BurtonUSOpen.com and on the Burton U·S·Open app available on the App Store and Google Play

An event unlike anything else in snowboarding, the Junior Jam plays a big role in progression—a key element of what makes the Burton U·S·Open special. The field is made up of the world’s best up-and-coming riders ages 14 & under. They’re after far more than just bragging rights. The winners of both the boys’ and girls’ divisions earn a chance to compete alongside the pros in Thursday’s Burton U·S·Open halfpipe semi-finals. This is a huge opportunity for anyone looking to make a name for themselves on the global stage, and the list of riders who have done just that is long, including Chloe Kim and Ayumu Hiranio.

USO 18 Junior Jam Girls Podium

Last year saw some of the most impressive Junior Jam action to date with 13-year-old Mitsuki Ono of Japan successfully defending her title, followed by Tessa Maud in 2nd, and Kinsley White in 3rd. Colorado local Jake Canter took home the top spot for the boys, followed by Valentino Guseli in 2nd, and Kyotara Tanaka for 3rd. Tessa Maud’s frontside 720 stalefish and Kyotara Tanaka’s frontside inverted 900 tailgrab were both awarded the Clif Bar “Best Trick” award.

Junior Jam is just the beginning of what will be a full week of world-class riding and entertainment. The Burton Concert Series kicks into gear tomorrow night with Lowell Thompson & Bob Wagner and Rayland Baxter on the Solaris Concert State. It’s the first of four nights of free live music, including additional late night music presented by Jack Daniel’s at the Shakedown Bar. Check out the full event and entertainment schedule for the week and prepare to party.
