Competition at the 36th annual Burton U·S·Open Snowboarding Championships kicks off today in Vail, Colorado, with the legendary Junior Jam presented by Clif Bar starting at 10:00am MST. The future of snowboarding is about to unfold before our eyes. Even if you can’t witness it in person, you can still watch the live broadcast at BurtonUSOpen.com and on the Burton U·S·Open app available on the App Store and Google Play.

An event unlike anything else in snowboarding, the Junior Jam plays a big role in progression—a key element of what makes the Burton U·S·Open special. The field is made up of the world’s best up-and-coming riders ages 14 & under. They’re after far more than just bragging rights. The winners of both the boy’s and girl’s divisions earn a chance to compete alongside the pros in Thursday’s Burton U·S·Open halfpipe semi-finals. This is a huge opportunity for anyone looking to make a name for themselves on the global stage, and the list of riders who have done just that is long, including Chloe Kim and Ayumu Hirano.

Junior Jammer Valentino Guseli of Australia prepares to drop.

Last year saw steady progression with 12-year-old girl’s winner Mitsuki Ono of Japan and 14-year-old Joonsik Lee of Korea rising above the field to take the honors and get the chance to compete alongside their heroes in the semis. With tricks like Cab 7s, Haakon Flips, and Cripplers in their repertoire, this event is far from child’s play.

Junior Jam is just the beginning of what will be a full week of world-class riding and entertainment. The Burton Concert Series also kicks into gear tonight with late night live music at the Shakedown Bar featuring the Eddie Roberts Super Jam starting at 9:00pm. Check out the full event and entertainment schedule for the week and prepare to party.
